about mr. reilly
ABOUT MR. REILLY: Hello everyone, I am Mr. Reilly and I am so exhilarated that you have decided to invest yourself in some technology courses this year. I am a certified Technology, Business Education and soon to be Art Teacher. Along with my NYS teaching certification I have also attained a Bachelors Degree in Business with a minor in Management and a Masters Diploma with a concentration in Computers in Education from Stony Brook University. I have taught a diverse number of classes here at Islip including DDP, World Of Technology, Principles Of Engineering, Multimedia Design, Video Production, AutoCAD, Traditional Photography, Digital Photography, 7th Grade Tech, Accounting, Business Management and Computer Math to name a few.
I have had the absolute privilege and honor of teaching mostly Technology classes in the Islip Public Schools for almost 25 years now. Since my first year at Islip I have lost a few strands of hair but I have not lost my love and passion for teaching. Both the local and educational community in Islip is one of great integrity, passion, honor and collaboration. Islip is certainly a community rich in pride and I look forward to contributing to its already established educational and community fellowship. It is my goal to engender a higher level of thinking and creativity into the classroom.
The challenge of education continues to be able to engage all learners in a meaningful curriculum and encourage every student to reach his/her own ultimate potential. This has been my goal since I entered public education, vowing to do what I could to make certain that learning is meaningful and maximized for each child. Research shows that powerful learning today depends upon a learning environment that is as engaging and intellectually stimulating as it can be. As we all know, students are growing up as digital natives while many teachers and parents are digital immigrants, although we are all working on becoming technologically savvy. It is my goal to help students truly maximize and enjoy their educational experience and to ensure all are prepared for real life applications and for the digital world of today as well as tomorrow. I have coached boys and girl's varsity track; spring and winter and have been the Girls Varsity Soccer Coach for the since 2002. Along with being the girl's varsity soccer head coach I am also the President of Suffolk County Girls Soccer Coaches Association, along with my other soccer duties including NYS Liaison and a member of the UNITED SOCCER COACHES National Ranking Committee and Vice President of the New York State Girls High School Soccer Hall of Fame, board member of the Long Island Soccer Player Hall of Fame and a Director of Coaches in a local club along with training soccer teams all over Long Island. Congratulations go out to the 2015 IVS girls team for wining Islip's 1st ever NYS Championships well as finishing the season ranked #11th in the Country! I have two lovely daughters and they are both Islip's biggest fans and are often on the sidelines cheering on the purple and gold with my amazing wife of over 15 years. Again, I am looking forward to a very productive and exciting year, and I hope that we are able to work together to make this a positive and meaningful experience for everyone involved. Islip Alumna and Inspirational Teacher Earn Award
Islip High School graduate and current University of Scranton student Shannon McKenna and Islip teacher Mike Reilly were recently honored with the Rose Kelly Award for the university’s Kania School of Management. The award was established by Scranton alumnus Joseph Wineburgh to link the efforts of educators to the achievements of college students, and is presented jointly to a student in each of the three Scranton undergraduate colleges who has demonstrated exemplary achievement in both academics and general campus involvement, and to the teacher who the student recognizes as having had a great impact on his or her life. McKenna and Reilly were recognized by Kania School of Management Associate Dean Murli Rajan at a Dec. 2 ceremony at the university’s Weinberg Memorial Library, hosted by the school’s highest-ranking professors. McKenna spoke about being inspired by Reilly, and presented him with the award on behalf of the university. “It was truly a moving moment for me after Shannon finished her speech about how I have impacted her both in the classroom and in life,” said Reilly. “This is a great honor and one that I will cherish always. I received this award for inspiring Shannon, but I believe it is the other way around. It is the students – and certainly a student-athlete like Shannon – who inspire me.” McKenna, an accounting major with a minor in mathematics, serves as the vice president of Scranton’s Student Athletic Advisory Committee, as well as participating in the Business Club and the Society of Accounting Students. She is a member of Alpha Lambda Delta (the freshman honor society) and Omega Beta Sigma (the women’s business honor society). In 2014, she received Scranton’s Frank O’Hara medal, awarded to the first-, second- and third-year students with the highest grade point averages in the each Scranton undergraduate college. Shannon is now a 2017 graduate, already hired by one of the top Accounting Firms in the State, as well as graduating as the highest ranked student within her area of study. Congrats and good luck Shannon! Kania School of Management Presented by Dr. Murli Rajan, Associate Dean Student: Shannon McKenna Teacher: Mr. Mike Reilly, Islip High School |
